Danielle Frankel, the brain behind the ethereal dress Katie Lee wore to her dreamy wedding on the Amalfi Coast, has come out with a full-fledged jewelry line that’s both architectural and awe-inspiring. It’s not surprising that a designer who got her experience in bridal designs working at Vera Wang and Marchesa thinks about ways to extend her brand beyond the walk down the aisle kind of fashion. “Our customer is investing in statement pieces whether or not she’s getting married,” Frankel explains. “And fittingly, our first jewelry collection draws inspiration from the idea of objet d’art: uncommon and special collectible pieces that provoke interest but not through traditional ways.” This particular capsule is a limited offereing that highlights natural, raw pearls, clients can purchase only purchase one piece of only a hundred created in everyu design. Each comes marked and signed like the exclusive work of art that they are.
Collaborating with fine jewelry artisans, Frankel handpicked every single pearl from the most recent Southeast Asian harvest. She paired the pearls with 14-karat rose gold and sterling silver to complement the tones of each stone. “Most of these designs required four or five iterations so that we could fully understand the architecture,” Frankel admits. “We also had to ensure practicality for the wearer and the ability to create the pieces at scale.” For the metal pearl drop earring, Frankel was inspired by Ruth Asawa’s wire sculptures and worked with an unusual metal mesh that is pulled taught to hold the pearl nested inside. Meanwhile, for the two oyster pearl earrings, the gradation and placement needed to be just right in order for each earring to work in harmony—a perfect marriage, if you will.“The jewelry itself is an extension of our brand and where we would like to grow within our client’s wardrobe,” Frankel adds. “This is also a way we can connect with those girls who may relate to us but are not approaching their nuptials.” The jewelry also has an heirloom quality that means the wearer can—and should—pass it down to her daughters. Consider it the best of both worlds, something special that can be worn every day as well, with a hint of history attached.
