The late actor Lee Sun-kyun, known for his role in “Parasite,” was remembered at a private funeral held at Seoul National University Hospital’s funeral home. Lee’s wife, Jeon Hye-jin, and their children attended the service, expressing profound grief. Mourners participated in a procession and left memos on a wall to honor the actor.
Lee Sun-kyun, found dead in an apparent suicide earlier this week, will be cremated, with his remains placed at a memorial park in Gwangju. The funeral proceedings were emotional, with Jeon Hye-jin visibly distraught as she bid farewell to her husband.
The actor’s death follows an investigation into alleged drug use, with Lee being interrogated by the police in October, November, and December. He claimed coercion into drug use by a bar hostess, apologized for the controversy, and underwent drug tests during the probe. Lee had recently withdrawn from the drama “No Way Out” amid the allegations.
Lee Sun-kyun’s passing has left the entertainment industry and fans in mourning. His agency, Hodu & U Entertainment, urged against spreading speculation or false information about the late star. The actor gained international acclaim for his role in the critically acclaimed film “Parasite,” which won the Best Picture at the Oscars in 2019. He also starred in Apple TV+’s Korean-language series, “Dr. Brain,” in 2021.
