Céline Dion, the beloved Grammy-winning icon, was spotted outside the Royal Monceau Hotel in Paris on July 23, greeting fans with her trademark warmth. This appearance comes as rumors swirl about her potential performance at the 2024 Summer Olympics.
Dion, 56, who has been dealing with a stiff-person syndrome diagnosis since December 2022, was all smiles as she waved and signed autographs for the crowd. This sighting coincided with reports from Variety and TMZ suggesting she might perform at the Olympics’ opening ceremony, reportedly earning a $2 million paycheck for a single song.
Recently, Dion has made a few notable public appearances, including announcing the Montreal Canadiens’ fifth-round draft pick at the 2024 Upper Deck NHL Draft in Las Vegas on June 28 and attending the premiere of her Prime Video documentary, “I Am: Celine Dion,” in New York City. The documentary details her journey with stiff-person syndrome and her aspirations to return to the stage.
In an April interview with Vogue France, Dion shared the uncertainty surrounding her return to live performances. “I can’t answer that… Because for four years I’ve been saying to myself that I’m not going back, that I’m ready, that I’m not ready,” she explained. “As things stand, I can’t stand here and say to you: ‘Yes, in four months.’ I don’t know… My body will tell me. On the other hand, I don’t just want to wait.”
Dion acknowledged the emotional and physical challenges she faces daily but emphasized her unwavering passion and determination. She expressed a strong desire to return to Paris and perform again, saying, “I’ve chosen to work with all my body and soul, from head to toe, with a medical team. I want to be the best I can be. My goal is to see the Eiffel Tower again!”
In a recent cover story interview, Dion hinted at her plans to return to the stage, saying, “We’re talking about putting a show together, and I have so many ideas. I can’t wait.”
Hoda Kotb, who interviewed Dion for Today, also discussed the possibility of Dion performing at the Paris Olympics during an appearance on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen. “Céline Dion at the Paris Olympics? That would be amazing, but I don’t know. I know she’s going to be performing live again, though. I don’t know where,” Kotb shared. “She’s gonna perform again, and there’s always gonna be a date and time to perform.”
