House of Ga’a, an epic war drama set against the backdrop of the Oyo Empire’s pre-colonial political intrigue, has dominated Netflix’s charts in Nigeria, remaining the most-watched film for three consecutive weeks since its debut on July 26, 2024.

Directed by Bolanle Austen-Peters, this powerful biopic explores the rise of Ga’a, a ruthless political figure whose quest for power leads to a brutal betrayal within the Oyo Empire. The film’s portrayal of 18th-century Nigerian history, coupled with stellar performances, has resonated strongly with audiences.

As of the week of August 5 to August 11, House of Ga’a continued to captivate Nigerian viewers, outpacing other popular titles on Netflix.

In close competition were Kingsman: The Golden Circle and Kingsman: The Secret Service, both part of the well-loved Kingsman spy action-comedy franchise, which claimed the second and third spots, respectively.

Fourth on the list was Mission: Cross, a comedic spy thriller about Park Kang-moo, a former agent turned househusband, who gets pulled back into the world of espionage. Savi, an Indian drama about a woman’s relentless effort to break her husband out of prison, ranked fifth.

Tad, the Lost Explorer, and the Emerald Tablet, a family adventure film following a construction worker’s wild journey to Peru, secured the sixth position.

At number seven was Borderless Fog, a gritty crime thriller that follows a detective investigating a series of brutal murders along the Indonesia-Malaysia border. Kung Fu Hustle, a martial arts comedy packed with action and humor, took the eighth spot.

Rounding out the top ten were Maharaja, an action-packed Indian film, at ninth, and Rebel Moon – Part 2: Director’s Cut, a sci-fi epic about a colony on the edge of the galaxy, which secured the tenth spot.
