How Some of Your Favorites Showed Up to Kiky & Akin’s Traditional Wedding

Who says matching aso-ebi has to mean matching outfits?

At Dr Akin Faminu and Kiky Festus’ traditional wedding, guests took the same lilac and olive-green fabric and made it their own.

The September 5 Lagos celebration was packed with custom lace, dramatic corsets, sculpted Geles and plenty of personal styling. But this particular fabric proved just how much room there is for creativity when everyone starts with the same material.

One guest went full drama in a strapless mermaid gown, pairing a velvet bodice with beaded cap sleeves and a fishtail hem that spilled into a multicoloured train.

Another kept things classic with a beaded peplum blouse and matching wrapper, letting the intricate detailing do the talking.

And then came the Geles. Every look was finished with lilac headwear, but the shapes ranged from soft rosette bows to structured, architectural folds.

Same fabric. Different silhouettes. Different personalities.

That is exactly how aso-ebi should be: coordinated enough to look like a crew, but individual enough for everyone to have their own fashion moment.
