Amaechi Muonagor Passes Away After Health Battle

Heartbreaking news has hit the Nollywood community as veteran actor Amaechi Muonagor has passed away after a long battle with kidney disease, diabetes, and stroke.

Muonagor’s death comes just a week after he appealed to Nigerians for financial assistance for a scheduled kidney transplant in India. His passing was announced on the evening of Sunday, March 24, 2024, leaving fans and colleagues in shock and mourning.

The 61-year-old actor, known for his memorable and comical roles, had been battling health issues for some time. A video circulated online recently showed him lying still in bed, unable to speak clearly due to the effects of his illness.

His fellow actor, Kingsley Orji, who was by his side, revealed that Muonagor’s kidney disease had caused speech impairment, and they had brought him home from the hospital due to financial constraints.

Muonagor spent the last few months of his life bedridden

Muonagor’s cousin, Hon Tony Muonagor, had earlier shared details of the actor’s health struggles, including his battle with diabetes and stroke, which had left him paralyzed in one leg. Despite managing his diabetes over the years, Muonagor required weekly dialysis and other treatments to maintain his health.

Muonagor’s passing adds to the list of Nollywood veterans who have died this month, including John ‘Mr Ibu’ Okafor, who passed away on March 2 after a prolonged illness that led to the amputation of his leg. The Nollywood community mourns the loss of these talented actors and celebrates the legacies they leave behind in the industry.
