How many times have you looked at an argyle knit and, without appreciating its intricate pattern work, dismissed it for its resemblance to the entirety of your golfing uncle’s wardrobe? We’ll start… every single time.
But what February’s fashion week shows proved eight months ago is that, styled right, we can fall for just about anything.
London Fashion Week designers, in particular, have a knack for tempting us by the most unlikely looks. This it fell to Molly Goddard, Victoria Beckham and Preen by Thornton Bregazzi to prove our subconscious wrong, and they did so in spectacular fashion.
Not only did we close the week acknowledging the imminent emergence of the argyle knit on the fashion scene, but we found ourselves eager to skip summer to indulge in the new autumn/winter staple. And we *never* want to skip summer…
The trick to wearing them this season – and not be mistaken for someone missing their nine iron – is to mix them with low-key trend staples. We’re talking beneath a slip, over a straight leg jean, or fitted atop a chic pencil skirt. Basically, anything but a checked trouser.
