The “Sabi Girl” has made it clear — she’s single, never been in a situationship, and ready for love.
In a candid interview with Dazed Magazine, Nigerian singer Ayra Starr opened up about her love life, revealing that she’s never experienced being in a serious relationship and is eager to feel what it’s like to be in love.
“I want to fall in love,” the “Rush” singer shared, referencing her song “Lagos Love Story,” which she wrote about her fantasy of what love would look like. Despite her rising fame, Ayra admitted, “I’ve actually never been in love. I’m a lover girl at heart, but I’ve never been in a fully committed relationship.”
While Ayra Starr has been in “certain situations,” she clarified they were not situationships. The singer explained that her busy lifestyle, from modelling as a teenager to balancing university and her current career in music, has played a role in her being single.
“I’ve always been working,” Ayra explained. “I’ve been working since I was 15… now I’m on the road.” Despite her demanding schedule, Ayra expressed a desire to explore love and see where it takes her.
Known for her playful on-stage interactions, she also touched on her habit of singing to her male fans during performances. “It’s me just enjoying myself as a girl,” she said. “I’m like, ‘Let me sing to a cute boy today,’ because I can, why not?”
There have been past rumors about Ayra being romantically linked with fellow artist Rema, but she swiftly shut them down. During a 2023 interview with Kiss FM, Ayra was puzzled when asked about the alleged romance, responding that she had never heard such rumors before. Setting the record straight, she emphasized, “That’s my brother in Christ.”
