Beyoncé has unveiled her latest musical masterpiece, “Cowboy Carter,” marking her eighth studio album and a bold foray into country music.
The album, also known as Act II from her Renaissance release, dropped in the U.S. at midnight on Friday, following an earlier release in countries like New Zealand and Australia. Beyoncé also treated fans to lyric videos on her YouTube channel.
Despite initial confusion, Beyoncé clarified that “Cowboy Carter” is not a country album but a quintessential Beyoncé album. However, the 27-track project features some notable country collaborations, including appearances by Dolly Parton and Willie Nelson.
Nelson, 90, lends his iconic voice to tracks like “Smoke Hour Willie Nelson” and “Smoke Hour II.” Meanwhile, Parton, 78, was thrilled to see Beyoncé’s rendition of her classic hit “Texas Hold ‘Em,” which earned Beyoncé a Billboard Hot Country number one single.
A standout track on the album, “Dolly P,” pays homage to the legendary singer, with Beyoncé even sharing a throwback photo of Parton on Instagram ahead of the release.
The album also features Linda Martell, a trailblazing artist who, in 1969, became the first Black female solo artist to perform at the Grand Ole Opry. Martell’s contribution to the album is an interlude leading into the track “Ya Ya.”
Notable collaborations on “Cowboy Carter” include Miley Cyrus on “II Most Wanted,” and Post Malone on “Levii’s Jeans.” Shaboozey, known for blending hip-hop and country, joins Beyoncé on “Spaghetti.”
Beyoncé’s teaser for the album’s tracklist on social media generated buzz, with the announcement reading, “Brought to you by KNTRY Radio Texas.”
The album’s journey began with a Verizon wireless commercial during the 2024 Super Bowl, where Beyoncé first hinted at the project. Ten days before its release, she expressed gratitude for the “outpouring of support” and revealed that the album had been “over five years in the making.”
With tracks like “American Requiem,” “Blackbird,” “Protector,” and more, “Cowboy Carter” is a testament to Beyoncé’s artistry and versatility, showcasing her ability to transcend genres and deliver groundbreaking music.
