Chidozie Oliver Maduka’s ’Unframed’ a compelling fine art photography solo exhibition by rising Nigerian visual artist Chidozie Maduka, held from July 12th to 19th, 2024. Although Maduka participated virtually, his absence was powerfully counterbalanced by the strength of his work and the gallery’s dedicated representation.

Unframed marked Maduka’s debut solo exhibition in the UK and featured a striking body of photographic work that challenges conventional notions of visibility, selfhood, and cultural framing. Through evocative compositions and a distinctive visual language, the artist interrogates themes of freedom, identity, and the unseen—pushing the boundaries of fine art photography into a deeply introspective and socially resonant space.

Maduka’s virtual participation included artist-led walkthroughs, media interviews, and live Q&A sessions that allowed him to connect meaningfully with audiences across borders. Rele Gallery’s curatorial team played an instrumental role in presenting the works and engaging collectors, curators, and art lovers throughout the weeklong exhibition.

“Though physically absent, Chidozie’s presence was palpable through every image,” said Adenrele Sonariwo, Founder and Director of Rele Gallery. “His work sparked dialogue, reflection, and strong collector interest. We are proud to have brought his vision to London.”

The exhibition received an enthusiastic reception, with robust attendance and several works acquired by private collectors in the UK and beyond. Critics and curators praised Maduka’s ability to weave complex narratives of personal and collective identity through a lens that is at once intimate and expansive.
