Cynthia Erivo didn’t just walk the 2025 Oscars red carpet—she owned it. The “Wicked” star opened the ceremony in a breathtaking Louis Vuitton gown sculpted from emerald green velvet, a tribute to both her character Elphaba and Hollywood trailblazer Hattie McDaniel.
Styled by Jason Bolden, the gown featured a standing flared collar, off-the-shoulder sleeves that seemed to defy gravity, and a voluminous ball skirt. In an Instagram Story, Bolden dedicated the look to McDaniel, writing: “Hope this dress makes you proud. Love, Jason and Cynthia.”
But it wasn’t just the dress that dazzled—it was the nails too! Cynthia’s gold set took a jaw-dropping 5 hours to complete, each nail adorned with jewelry-like details including a rectangular watch face and an emerald cross. Nail artist ClawzByDior revealed, “When I think of the Oscars, I think gold — luxury, boldness, and pure elegance.” She even drew inspiration from the Oscar statue itself, crafting each element by hand without shortcuts.
As if that weren’t enough, Cynthia completed her look with diamond-encrusted earrings, a diamond bracelet, and diamond and emerald rings, all gleaming under the red carpet lights. Her hair, styled in an elegant updo by Vernon François, paired perfectly with her metallic green eyeshadow and deep berry lip by makeup artist Nick Barose.
