Nigerian megastar Davido gave an unforgettable performance as Ethiopians celebrated the start of the year 2017 on September 11, 2024. Known for his role in taking Afrobeats global, Davido headlined a sold-out show to mark Ethiopia’s unique New Year celebration, which is seven years behind the globally recognized Gregorian calendar.
During the electrifying concert, Davido performed several of his hit tracks, including songs from his record-breaking fourth album, Timeless. His vibrant performance added to the excitement of the celebration, which follows the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo calendar—a system with 13 months that differs from the widely used Gregorian calendar.
This event came just after Davido’s impressive performance in Saint-Tropez, where he entertained notable guests, including Nigerian billionaire Femi Otedola. While in France, Davido also had a memorable encounter with a Saudi Prince, proudly introducing himself as the “King of Nigeria.”
2024 has been a stellar year for Davido, with three nominations at the upcoming 66th Grammy Awards. The superstar further fueled Grammy buzz with the release of his single “Joy,” a collaboration with five-time Grammy winner Angélique Kidjo. Released on August 30, the song came just before the submission deadline for the 67th Grammys.
As fans eagerly await his highly anticipated fifth project, which Davido has described as his best yet, his performance in Ethiopia highlights his continuous influence on the global music scene.
