Ghetto Kids Set for Shakira World Cup 2026 Halftime Show Performance

The internet already knew the Ghetto Kids were special long before stadium lights and FIFA stages entered the conversation. But now, everything is scaling up in a way that feels almost surreal. From viral dance clips to global music videos, the Ugandan dance collective is officially stepping into what might be their biggest moment yet — a live performance alongside Shakira at the 2026 FIFA World Cup final halftime show at MetLife Stadium on 19 July.

And if that sounds like a leap, their story makes it feel less like luck and more like momentum that has been building for years.

The Ghetto Kids were founded in 2014 by Dauda Kavuma in the Katwe slums of Kampala, Uganda. What started as a grassroots effort to support vulnerable children through performance has evolved into a structured foundation that provides shelter, education, and nutrition for children from underprivileged backgrounds. Today, the group includes around 60 children aged between 4 and 16, all trained through dance, music, and storytelling as both expression and opportunity.

Their first major breakthrough came the internet way — raw, unfiltered, and impossible to ignore. A homemade routine to Eddy Kenzo’s “Sitya Loss” went viral and turned them into an overnight global curiosity. It wasn’t polished industry marketing. It was joy, precision, and energy that felt too powerful to scroll past.

Then came the era of global expansion.

In 2017, a collaboration with choreographer Sherrie Silver on Dotorado Pro’s “Marimba Rija” pushed them into a new level of visibility, earning tens of millions of views and cementing their identity as more than a viral moment. From there, their presence only widened, moving from internet fame to real-world stages and international recognition.

Their most defining mainstream breakthrough arrived with Britain’s Got Talent, where they received a Golden Buzzer mid-performance — a franchise first. The moment didn’t just introduce them to Europe; it positioned them as one of the most emotionally resonant performance groups of their generation.

Since then, the Ghetto Kids have quietly built a global résumé that reads like a touring headline act. They appeared in French Montana’s “Unforgettable” music video, performed at FIFA World Cup-related events in Qatar, and even took the stage at the Oslo Business Forum in 2025. Along the way, they’ve picked up accolades including an AFRIMMA Award, a YouTube Creators Award, and recognition from the RIAA.

Their connection to Shakira feels like the final piece of a long, looping story. What began as a viral dance challenge eventually turned into a creative collaboration, with the group featuring in the official “Dai Dai” video alongside Burna Boy. Now, that relationship is evolving into something even bigger: a live global performance in front of an expected billion-viewer audience.

From Katwe to MetLife Stadium, it is not just a performance booking. It is a full-circle cultural moment unfolding in real time.

And the world will be watching.
