If you thought a film premiere was just about the movie, think again. The “Gingerrr” premiere over the weekend was basically a 1920s fashion fever dream — with Lagos giving Birmingham gangsters a run for their money.
The theme? Peaky Blinders. The execution? Bold, inventive, and with enough swagger to make Cillian Murphy nervous.

On the carpet, the cast of Gingerrr — Kiekie, Bolaji Ogunmola, Wumi Toriola, Kamo State, Timini Egbuson, and Bisola Aiyeola — went all in. We’re talking sharply tailored three-piece suits, flat caps tilted just so, cloche hats perched with intention, and vintage-inspired dresses that looked straight out of a smoky speakeasy (minus the gin haze).
But here’s where it got really clever: Nigeria came along for the ride. Asooke and adire prints slipped seamlessly into Peaky Blinders silhouettes, proving that African textiles aren’t just heritage staples — they can gangster-up just as well as any tweed. Funke Akindele, Veekee James, Lilian Afegbai, Adesua Etomi, Blessing Nze, Ini Dima–Okojie, and Tola Odunsi all reimagined the theme with that blend of vintage grit and modern shine.
The result? A red carpet that wasn’t just stylish, but wildly inventive. Proof that themed dressing doesn’t have to feel like costume — it can be an unapologetic flex in creativity. This was cosplay, but make it couture.
