Idris Elba, known for his roles in Luther and Hijack, is set to direct a star-studded cast including singer Seal and Nollywood stars Nse Ikpe-Etim, Eku Edewor, Atlanta Bridget Johnson, and Constance Olatunde in the short film “Dust To Dreams.”
The film, a collaboration between Mo Abudu’s EbonyLife Films and African Export Import Bank (Afreximbank) through its Creative Africa Nexus (Canex), is set in Lagos, Nigeria. It follows the story of a mother and her teenage daughter as she meets her father for the first time.
Created by Mo Abudu, and written and directed by Elba, the film will see Abudu serving as both executive producer and producer, with Heidi Uys as supervising producer. Other producers on the project include Temidayo Makanjuola, Inem King, and Vanessa Demme.
Idris Elba, a Golden Globe winner of Sierra Leonean and Ghanaian descent, made his directorial debut with the 2018 movie Yardie. Seal, a multi-Grammy winner whose mother is Nigerian, has had previous dramatic roles, including appearing in the 2022 comedy film Me Time and as Pontius Pilate in the 2016 Fox musical drama The Passion.
