J.K. Rowling, known for the Harry Potter series, recently stirred controversy by criticizing her former stars Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson for their support of transgender rights.
Rowling, who has faced backlash for her anti-transgender comments in the past, shared a review of medical evidence regarding transitioning children on social media.
When a follower mentioned Radcliffe and Watson and suggested they should publicly apologize to Rowling, she responded by stating that apologies should be directed towards detransitioners and women reliant on single-sex spaces. Radcliffe and Watson, known for their roles as Harry Potter and Hermione Granger respectively, have not publicly commented on their views regarding medical transitioning of children.
Rowling’s 2020 essay criticizing transgender rights drew criticism from LGBTQ advocates and Harry Potter stars. Radcliffe expressed his support for trans women, emphasizing that “transgender women are women.” Watson also voiced her support for the transgender community, emphasizing that trans people deserve to live without constant questioning or denial of their identities.
Other Harry Potter actors, including Jason Isaacs, Robbie Coltrane, Harry Melling, Evanna Lynch, and Rupert Grint, have also shared their views on the matter. Grint, who played Ron Weasley, expressed his support for the trans community, stating that “trans women are women” and that everyone should live with love and without judgment.
