Actor and politician John Setor Dumelo has sparked a lively discussion on social media, especially X (formerly Twitter), with his recent comments on the controversial “Promotion of Proper Human Sexual Rights and Ghanaian Family Values Bill,” commonly known as the “anti-gay bill.”
Critics on social media have accused Dumelo, an aspiring parliamentarian, of having wavering convictions on the issue.
The bill, currently being considered by Ghana’s Parliament and awaiting presidential approval, has attracted both domestic and international criticism over concerns about potential human rights violations.
During a recent interview on Star FM, Dumelo mentioned that he aligns with the National Democratic Congress (NDC) on the bill, highlighting the party’s stance on protecting “family values” in Ghana. However, he did not explicitly state his position, citing respect for individual privacy.
Despite this, Dumelo’s comments have faced criticism online, with some pointing out his previous role as a gay character in the 2010 Nigerian film “Men In Love.” The movie portrays a couple dealing with marital issues, complicated by the arrival of a gay friend under a curse.
Dumelo’s statements have ignited debates on social media, with users expressing diverse opinions on his stance and past roles.
