Layers of Seeing Brings Five Artistic Voices Together in Abuja

Art

There are exhibitions you walk through quickly, taking in one work after another. Then there are those that make you stop, return to a piece, and wonder what someone else might have seen that you didn’t.

Layers of Seeing belongs to the latter.

On Saturday, August 29, 2026, Orisun Art Gallery will present a group exhibition featuring Ibrahim Kareem, Anehita Aletor, Ololade Oletubo, Samson Yusuf, and Deborah Ibeme. The exhibition will run from 10am to 6pm at the gallery’s space on the first floor of Tropic Galleria, by Grand Square, Muhammadu Buhari Way, CBD Abuja.

At the centre of the exhibition is perspective — not simply what we see, but how differently the same world can be observed, interpreted and eventually expressed.

That idea takes on five forms through the participating artists.

Ibrahim Kareem approaches his work with an expressive use of colour and form, giving his pieces a visual presence that draws the eye almost immediately. Samson Yusuf, by contrast, offers work that feels more contemplative. Rather than revealing everything at once, his pieces encourage the viewer to spend time with them.

There is also a considered quality to Deborah Ibeme’s contribution. Her work favours subtlety over excess, allowing details and emotions to emerge without overwhelming the viewer.

Anehita Aletor and Ololade Oletubo bring further dimensions to the exhibition, extending its conversation through their individual approaches and adding to the variety that gives Layers of Seeing its character.

The differences between the five artists are important. The exhibition does not attempt to make their practices look or feel alike. Instead, it gives those differences room to exist alongside one another.

The result is a show that asks visitors to do more than move from artwork to artwork.

It asks them to pay attention.

Because seeing is rarely as straightforward as it seems. What one person notices, another may overlook. What feels familiar to one viewer can appear entirely different through another person’s eyes. Art has always had a way of exposing that gap, and Layers of Seeing places it at the heart of the experience.

For Abuja’s art audience, the exhibition offers an opportunity to encounter five artists within the same space while experiencing the distinct visual worlds each has created.

And for visitors who may not consider themselves regular gallery-goers, there is no complicated entry point. Curiosity is enough.

Layers of Seeing opens at 10am on Saturday, August 29, 2026, and continues until 6pm at Orisun Art Gallery, 1st Floor, Tropic Galleria, by Grand Square, Muhammadu Buhari Way, CBD Abuja.
