Lupita Nyong’o knows how to serve a look—and a history lesson! The Oscar-winning actress paid homage to her 2015 Oscars appearance in a custom Chanel couture dress dripping with 22,410 pearl embellishments at the 2025 Academy Awards in Los Angeles.
Her ivory shift dress, featuring a beaded corset and pleated skirt, was inspired by a design from Chanel’s Spring 1991 Couture collection, originally worn by Linda Evangelista. This nod to the past felt even more symbolic, considering Lupita’s unforgettable 2015 pearl gown that was famously stolen (and later recovered).
Styled by her go-to stylist Micaela Erlanger, Lupita paired the gown with Art Deco-inspired jewelry from Chanel, including a bracelet, earrings, and rings that added a vintage-glam vibe. For beauty, hairstylist Vernon François crafted an elegant updo, while makeup artist Nick Barose gave her metallic green eyeshadow and a deep berry lip—serving face and history all at once!
