La Mode Magazine’s annual Green October Event had its 9th Edition on Sunday 1st October 2023. The event which was themed “Disabilities and Mental Health Awareness definitely left some awesome memories printed in the hearts of everyone present.
The annual Green October Event is put together to raise awareness for people living with disabilities, with the aim to have them seamlessly recognized as active member of the society and to put an end to any form of discrimination and stigmatization. The event also helps promote African Fashion and creativity not just in the fashion industry but in the African entertainment sphere as a whole.
This year’s edition was hosted by internationally recognised supermodel, Lopez Aramide and former BBNaija housemate, Okusaga, this years’ edition saw the presence of most of the A-List celebrities and top fashion entrepreneurs in the country and the continent at large, with celebrities such as Iyabo Ojo, Chris Okagbue, Chinonso Arubayi, Voke Petra, Swazzi, Judith Audu, Ashmusy, Chioma Iyagba and lots more, and top fashion entrepreneurs such as Rikaoto by Maryam Elisha, Agbonsprada, Isi Atagamen, Nnonistics and much more in attendance.
This years’ event also saw some awesome runway moment by the kids, people living with Disabilities and one of Nigeria’s fastest rising fashion powerhouses, UNICE Apparel dazzled the audience with her latest collection. It also saw amazing performances by some of Nigeria top and fast rising talents like dancers, MaryBen and Mayowa, saxophonist, Abel Tee, music artists, JKay D Great and EGroyce, all entertaining the crowd.
The event also had empowering and inspiring speeches by some amazing and notable individuals, some of whom were people living with disabilities and was crowned with La Mode Magazine and La Mode Magazine Foundation presenting 4 wheelchairs to the Mo Rainbow Foundation, in a bid to support those living with disabilities
The highlight of the event however, was the annual prestigious and most coveted La Mode Awards presentation, which is usually presented to notable individuals and fashion entrepreneurs in a bid to recognise and appreciate their hard work and input in the society. With celebrities such as Iyabo Ojo, Nkechi Blessing, Safina Fifi, Voke Petra, and Chinonso Arubayi going home with humanitarian awards, Ijeoma Josephina Otabor (Phyna), bagging the coveted celebrity of the year award, Rikaoto by Mariam Elisha winning the most coveted African Fashion Brand of the year. The biggest winner of the night has to be Putia Original who went home with two awards, one for her contribution to the fashion industry and the other for the coveted best dressed celebrity of the night.
