There are birthday looks, and then there are statements. Shade Okoya clearly chose the latter.

Marking her 49th birthday, the businesswoman and style icon stepped into a fully realized fashion moment—one that leaned into colour, craftsmanship, and presence without hesitation.

Dressed in a custom creation by Tubobereni, Shade embraced a rich mustard-gold palette that felt warm, striking, and entirely intentional.

The gown itself was a study in detail. Cut into a fitted, floor-length silhouette, the design was covered in intricate beadwork arranged in curved and geometric patterns across the bodice. The embellishment gave the look of structure without taking away from its fluidity.

At the hip, a fringe peplum detail introduced movement, subtly breaking up the column shape and adding depth to the overall composition. The sheer sleeves, adorned with matching beadwork from shoulder to wrist, balanced coverage with delicacy, while a modest V-neckline kept everything grounded in elegance.

Her gele, crafted by Taiwo’s Touch, was sculptural and commanding. Tied in the same golden tone, it rose into a structured silhouette with a rosette detail at the front, bringing cohesion and a sense of ceremony to the entire look.

Accessories were handled with precision. Instead of leaning further into gold, Shade opted for silver jewellery, a layered choker and drop earrings that created contrast and kept the look from feeling overly saturated.

Her shoes followed the colour story: pointed-toe satin heels in matching yellow, finished with delicate embellishment. Beauty-wise, the approach was polished and controlled, defined eyes, soft glow, and a neutral lip that allowed the outfit to remain the focal point.

Captured through the lens of Felix Crown, with beauty by Tenny Coco, the final images feel like a celebration not just of a birthday, but of clarity in personal style.

Yellow can be tricky. Too soft, and it fades. Too loud, and it overwhelms. Shade Okoya found the exact balance and owned it completely.
