Shakira’s legal battle over tax fraud charges has taken an unexpected turn, with her lawyer blaming her ex-partner, Gerard Pique, for the predicament.

The singer’s lawyer, Pau Molins, suggests that her 11-year relationship with Pique, a former Barcelona footballer, led to facing six tax fraud charges instead of three. Molins argues that Spain’s tax laws, especially wealth tax, are not uniform, and residents in Madrid, where Ramos played for Real Madrid, don’t pay wealth tax, unlike those in Catalonia, where Shakira lived with Pique.

Molins claims Shakira could have saved around £100 million if she had been with Real Madrid’s Ramos instead.
