Showmax, the popular streaming platform, has dropped the trailer for its latest original Nigerian film, “Dead of Night,” marking its debut into the Nigerian horror genre.

Directed by Chiemeka Osuagwu, known for his work on films like “Far From Home” (2022) and “A Weekend to Forget” (2023), “Dead of Night” is set in the remote village of Ekeoba. The story revolves around three teenage girls – Chinaza, Onyi, and Ihuoma, portrayed by Nollywood newcomers Favour Etim, Diana Egwatu, and Nene Aliemeke. The girls venture to rob an abandoned house but find themselves trapped inside, facing eerie supernatural forces. To escape the clutches of Onwu, an evil entity haunting the house, they must navigate a maze of horror that threatens their very souls.

The film also stars Kunle Idowu, a three-time AMVCA nominee known as Frank Donga, along with Eric Obinna, Allison Precious, and Chuks Joseph.

“We aimed to delve into Nigeria’s rich folklore and superstitions while delivering a spine-chilling horror experience,” said Femi D. Ogunsanwo, the film’s executive producer. “This movie explores themes of fear, guilt, greed, and redemption within a gripping supernatural thriller. I’m thrilled for audiences to immerse themselves in this dark world we’ve created,” he added.

“Dead of Night” marks Showmax’s first foray into Nigerian horror cinema and is now available for streaming.
