‘The Chi’ Welcomes Rotimi from ‘Power’ for a Major Role in Season 7

Exciting news for fans of The Chi! Power alum Rotimi is joining the cast for the seventh season in a heavily recurring role.

Rotimi will portray Charles, the former assistant to Pastor Ezekiel (Daniel J. Watts), who comes back to the church seeking redemption. The character made his debut in the Season 6 finale, and his journey will continue with a significant multi-episode arc in the upcoming season.

Created and executive produced by Lena Waithe (Twenties, Master of None) under her Hillman Grad banner, alongside executive producer Common (Selma), The Chi focuses on a group of residents on the South Side of Chicago. These individuals become linked by coincidence but are bonded by their need for connection and redemption. The show airs on Paramount+ with Showtime and is produced by 20th Television.

The Season 6 cast included Jacob Latimore, Alex Hibbert, Yolonda Ross, Shamon Brown Jr., Michael V. Epps, Birgundi Baker, Luke James, and Curtiss Cook.

In addition to Waithe and Common, the series boasts an impressive lineup of executive producers, including Aaron Kaplan (A Million Little Things, The Neighborhood), Rick Famuyiwa (Dope), Justin Hillian, Jewel Coronel, Derek Dudley, Shelby Stone of ID8 Multimedia, and Rishi Rajani, CEO of Hillman Grad. Naomi Funabashi, who oversees for Hillman Grad, and Resheida Brady serve as co-executive producers.

Rotimi is best known for his role as Dre on Starz’s Power. Recently, he guest-starred in ABC’s Will Trent and has had roles in series like Starz’s Boss, CBS’s Battle Creek, and Betrayal. On the film side, Rotimi appeared in New Line’s reboot of House Party, Robin Givens-directed Favorite Son, Divergent, Deuces, Black Nativity, and Imperial Dreams. He is represented by Artist Collective Entertainment, Vault Entertainment, and Meyer & Downs.
