Held at the Eko Hotel & Suites, the AMVCAs brought together some of the biggest names in African film and television. But amid the glamour, performances, and emotional wins, it was Uche Montana’s unexpected full-circle moment that quickly became one of the night’s standout highlights.
While presenting an award earlier in the ceremony, the actress jokingly launched into a mock acceptance speech, thanking God, her family, and supporters while dedicating the imaginary win to “every girl that was told she was not good enough.” The audience erupted with laughter, with many praising her comedic timing and confidence.
What nobody expected, including Montana herself, was that the joke would become reality only moments later.
Uche Montana returned to the stage after being announced as the winner of the prestigious Trailblazer Award — a special AMVCA recognition honour reserved for emerging talents making a significant impact on African film and television.
Unlike fan-voted acting categories, the Trailblazer Award is selected internally and is widely viewed as one of the ceremony’s most respected career-defining honours.
Still visibly emotional while accepting the award, Montana admitted she was struggling to process the moment.
“I’m still trying to find words… I’m shaking,” she shared during her speech. “Earlier today, I was standing here joking and giving a fake speech, and now… wow.”
She went on to dedicate the award to young dreamers everywhere, encouraging them to continue believing in themselves regardless of obstacles or setbacks.
