A fragrance that dances with culture and memory.

Byredo unveils “Bal d’Afrique,” a perfume inspired by the rhythms, movements, and artistic heritage of Africa. Floral yet musky, the scent embodies both elegance and vitality, while the accompanying campaign celebrates the distinct cultural narratives of West African dancers and models, weaving personal stories into a visual ode to identity and presence.

Shot by photographer Philip-Daniel Ducasse, the campaign adopts a lens of intimacy and restraint. Every frame captures not just movement but the spaces the dancers inhabit, revealing subtle connections between body, environment, and memory. Motion dictates rhythm, creating imagery that is both contemplative and alive, resonating with the scent’s cultural inspiration.

The fragrance itself unfolds in three layers: a top note of bergamot, African marigold, and blackcurrant brings a fresh vibrancy; floral middle notes of violet and cyclamen evoke the richness of the African landscape; and a warm, woody base of cedarwood, vetiver, tonka bean, and musks grounds the perfume in complexity and depth. The result is a composition that is at once energetic, intimate, and enduring.

“Bal d’Afrique” retails for $330 USD and is available now via the Byredo website, offering a sensory journey that bridges culture, artistry, and memory.
