If the early days of the 2026 WNBA season are any indication, A’ja Wilson is already setting a pace the league is struggling to match. The Las Vegas Aces centre delivered a historic performance on 15 May 2026, becoming the first player in WNBA history to record multiple 45-point games after dropping 45 points in a 101–94 win over the Connecticut Sun.

In a league built on elite talent, Wilson’s night stood out not just for the scoring total, but for the efficiency behind it. She finished 15-of-18 from the field, hit both of her three-point attempts, and went a perfect 13-of-13 from the free-throw line. In just 32 minutes, she added 3 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 blocks, and a steal—completing one of the most complete scoring performances of the season.

According to ESPN Research, the outing also made her the only player in WNBA history to score 45 or more points while shooting at least 80% from the field, further separating her performance from even the league’s most elite scoring nights.

This latest explosion adds to an already historic scoring résumé. Wilson’s first 45-point game came in August 2023 against the Atlanta Dream, where she set her career-high of 53 points. Friday’s performance now ranks as her second-highest scoring game and marks her fifth career 40-point outing—the most in WNBA history, moving her past Breanna Stewart and Diana Taurasi.

Courtside at Mohegan Sun Arena, the moment carried additional star power, with Miami Heat forward Bam Adebayo in attendance to witness the performance firsthand.

After the game, Wilson downplayed the spectacle in trademark fashion, focusing instead on efficiency and system play. “Finding shots in our system and letting the flow of the game take over—that’s big to me,” she said. “I want to be efficient. It’s beautiful to rack up all these points, but to be efficient, that’s what is key.”

Her teammate Chelsea Gray offered a different perspective, capturing the sentiment around Wilson’s dominance more directly: “You can’t get bored with watching greatness.”

Wilson also reflected on the emotional weight of the venue, which is set to host its final Sun season before the team’s relocation to Houston. “This building has been special to me for a while,” she said. “Got my first WNBA point in this building and a championship in this building. It’s fun coming here. Going to miss this place.”
