Paramount Pictures has unveiled the first-look images from the highly anticipated film adaptation of Children of Blood and Bone, offering fans their first glimpse into the magical world of Orïsha ahead of the movie’s theatrical release on January 15, 2027.

Directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood, the fantasy epic is based on Tomi Adeyemi’s bestselling young adult novel inspired by Yoruba mythology. The film follows Zélie Adebola (played by Thuso Mbedu), a young woman determined to restore the magic that was violently taken from her people, the Maji. Joined by her brother Tzain (Tosin Cole), Princess Amari (Amandla Stenberg), and Prince Inan (Damson Idris), she embarks on a dangerous mission to challenge the brutal reign of King Saran.
The newly released images showcase the rich visual world of Orïsha, highlighting elaborate costumes, breathtaking landscapes, and the film’s ambitious fantasy aesthetic. Prince-Bythewood, known for The Woman King and The Old Guard, brings the beloved novel to life with a production that celebrates African history, culture, and mythology on a blockbuster scale.

The ensemble cast features an impressive lineup of international and African stars, including Chiwetel Ejiofor as King Saran, Regina King as Queen Nehanda, Viola Davis, Idris Elba, Cynthia Erivo, Lashana Lynch, Richard Mofe-Damijo, Zackary Momoh, and Bukky Bakray.
The adaptation also spotlights emerging Nigerian talent, with Ayra Starr making her Hollywood acting debut alongside Pamilerin Ayodeji, Shamz Garuba, Temi Fagbenle, and Kola Bodunde.
Adding to the film’s authenticity, key scenes were filmed in Lagos, Nigeria, reinforcing the story’s deep connection to Yoruba culture and its African roots.

Behind the camera, Gina Prince-Bythewood co-wrote the screenplay with Tomi Adeyemi. The film is produced by Wyck Godfrey, Marty Bowen, John Fischer, Isaac Klausner, Karen Rosenfelt, and Matt Jackson, while Adeyemi and Reggie Rock Bythewood serve as executive producers.
