The highly anticipated biopic “Michael” about the legendary Michael Jackson is set to hit theaters on April 18, 2025. Directed by Antoine Fuqua, the film promises to delve into the complexities of Jackson’s life, both on and off the stage.

At CinemaCon 2024, attendees were treated to a sneak peek of the film, showcasing Jaafar Jackson, Michael’s nephew, in the lead role. Lionsgate Motion Picture Group Chair Adam Fogelson described Michael Jackson as “simply a man” who lived a “very complicated life,” indicating that the movie will explore both his public performances and private struggles.

Producer Graham King, known for his work on “Bohemian Rhapsody,” expressed the significance of bringing Michael’s story to the big screen, highlighting his career triumphs, personal challenges, and musical legacy. King mentioned that despite the daunting task of condensing Jackson’s life into a single film, the cast and crew were able to honor his legacy.

The trailer revealed glimpses of Jaafar Jackson embodying his uncle’s iconic performances, including a rendition of “Man in the Mirror” that left fans in tears. The film also features Colman Domingo as Joe Jackson, Nia Long as Katherine Jackson, and Miles Teller as John Branca.

With over 30 songs from Jackson’s career included in the film, “Michael” promises to be a cinematic event that pays tribute to one of the most prolific artists of all time. Following the success of “MJ: The Musical” on Broadway, fans can look forward to experiencing the magic of Michael Jackson’s life and music on the big screen.
