Nelly Mbonu took the Green October dress code somewhere far more interesting than simply wearing green.

The style star arrived in a custom Mubrik velvet gown that looked almost like it had grown around her body. Two shades of green — olive and deep forest — worked together across the fitted silhouette, giving the dress depth and a rich, almost botanical quality.

The strapless neckline was sculpted into curved, pointed shapes that echoed leaves, while the corseted middle pulled the waist in before the hips opened into rounded curves. From there, the gown narrowed into a long column that swept cleanly to the floor.

But the hat was the real fashion moment.

Made from matching green velvet, the oversized leaf-shaped headpiece stretched across Nelly’s face and partially concealed her eyes. It added mystery to the look and pushed the outfit firmly into editorial territory.

She wisely kept everything else quiet. Curved gold earrings, a silver watch and pointed green shoes completed the look, while soft makeup allowed the dramatic shapes and velvet texture to remain the focus.

What makes the outfit particularly strong is how consistently the idea runs through it. The colour, neckline, silhouette and hat all speak the same visual language without making the look feel like a costume.

Nelly did not just dress for Green October. She turned herself into the mood board.
