Lagos has long been a breeding ground for creative expression, and its skateboarding community is now making its mark on global sneaker culture. Nigerian collective waf., better known as Wafflesncream, has joined forces with adidas to reinterpret the Superstar ADV, becoming the first African skate community to put its stamp on the iconic silhouette.

Founded in 2012 by Jomi Marcus-Bello, Nifemi Marcus-Bello and KC Obijiaku, waf. has spent more than a decade cultivating a skate scene in a city where the sport is still finding its footing. Its partnership with adidas, first introduced during the summer of 2026, marks the sportswear giant’s first collaboration with a Nigerian brand and is now reaching an international audience.

The sneaker itself carries subtle references to Lagos. A dusty grey upper draws inspiration from Lagos Island, while breathable side panels respond to the city’s tropical climate. Beneath it, a translucent pink outsole takes its colour cues from the changing hues of the Lagos skyline.

The collaboration also brings together two generations of skateboarding history. Originally introduced in 1970, the adidas Superstar evolved into the skate-focused Superstar ADV in 2015. Through waf., the silhouette takes on a new cultural identity rooted in West African creativity.

Beyond footwear, the partnership recognises a community that has helped shape Nigeria’s emerging skate culture through initiatives such as Go Skate Day and the opening of its Freedom Park skatepark in 2024.

For waf., the global release is more than a sneaker milestone. It places a homegrown Lagos movement on an international stage, proving that the city’s influence extends well beyond music and fashion.

The waf. x adidas Superstar ADV is available through the adidas website and select retailers.
