The world of Children of Blood and Bone is shaping up to be just as powerful musically as it is visually. Director Gina Prince-Bythewood has revealed that Grammy Award-winning singer Tems is serving as executive producer of the film’s soundtrack, while Burna Boy joins the production as an executive music consultant.

The announcement further strengthens the film’s connection to contemporary African culture, bringing together some of the continent’s biggest musical talents for what promises to be one of 2027’s most anticipated cinematic releases.

According to Prince-Bythewood, the collaboration was a natural extension of her creative process. While writing the screenplay for the adaptation of Tomi Adeyemi’s bestselling fantasy novel, she repeatedly listened to music from both Tems and Burna Boy, making their eventual involvement feel almost inevitable.

Fans have already had a taste of Tems’ contribution. Her hit single “Me & U” features prominently in the film’s official teaser, setting the emotional tone for the fantasy epic. But that’s only the beginning. Tems’ manager, Muyiwa Awoniyi, has confirmed that the Grammy-winning artist also created three brand-new original songs exclusively for the film.

Burna Boy

Beyond Tems and Burna Boy, the soundtrack boasts an impressive lineup of Nigerian stars. Fireboy DML, BNXN (Benson), and Ayra Starr all contribute to the project, further cementing the soundtrack as a celebration of African musical excellence.

Ayra Starr’s involvement extends beyond music. The Afropop sensation also makes her Hollywood acting debut in the film, marking another significant milestone in her rapidly expanding international career.

Prince-Bythewood has described the soundtrack as an “epic, no-skips” body of work that reflects the emotional depth of Adeyemi’s beloved novel. The music is expected to mirror the story’s central themes of magic, oppression, identity, resilience, purpose, and hope while helping bring the mythical kingdom of Orïsha to life.

The collaboration represents a significant cultural moment, bridging contemporary African music with a major Hollywood fantasy production. With Tems shaping the soundtrack’s creative direction and Burna Boy lending his expertise as an executive music consultant, the film promises an authentic sonic landscape that complements its African-inspired world.

Children of Blood and Bone is scheduled to arrive in cinemas and IMAX worldwide on 15 January 2027.
