For its 12th edition, the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA)) has announced a major hosting shake-up, with Nigeria’s Bovi Ugboma and South Africa’s Nomzamo Mbatha set to co-host the ceremony on May 9, 2026, at the Eko Hotel and Suites.
This marks the first major transition in hosting leadership since the awards debuted in 2013—a moment that signals both evolution and intention.
For over a decade, IK Osakioduwa has been synonymous with the AMVCA stage. His voice, timing, and effortless charm became part of the show’s identity, guiding audiences through twelve years of unforgettable moments. His co-hosting appearance alongside rising star David Oke at the 11th edition hinted at change, but this announcement makes it official: the AMVCA is entering a new era.
And it’s doing so with a duo that feels both strategic and exciting.

Bovi brings a seasoned comedic edge shaped by more than two decades in entertainment. From his hit sitcom Extended Family to his globally recognized Man on Fire comedy tour, he has built a reputation for sharp wit and cultural relevance. His film My Village People also marked a commercial milestone, crossing the ₦100 million mark at the Nigerian box office. Speaking on the opportunity, Bovi admitted the moment caught him off guard—but emphasized that preparation for the role is already in full swing.

Nomzamo Mbatha, on the other hand, brings a different kind of presence, one rooted in global visibility and purposeful storytelling. The South African actress rose to fame on Isibaya, expanded into Hollywood with Coming 2 America alongside Eddie Murphy, and currently stars as Queen Nandi in Shaka iLembe, where she also serves as executive producer. Beyond entertainment, she is a UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador and founder of the Nomzamo Lighthouse Foundation, blending influence with impact.
Together, they strike a compelling balance, Bovi’s humor and spontaneity meeting Nomzamo’s poise and global appeal.
The 12th AMVCA isn’t just refreshing its hosts. This year also introduces two new categories: Best Indigenous Language (North Africa) and Best Indigenous Language (Central Africa), further reinforcing the awards’ pan-African vision. Veteran actress Joke Silva steps in as Head Judge, adding another layer of industry gravitas to the ceremony.
May 9. Lagos. One stage, a new energy.
