In an exclusive interview with Victor Adewole, the creative force behind Vixteau Couture, La Mode Magazine dives into the world of fashion exhibitions and runway showcases. Victor has garnered international attention not only for his intricate, couture designs but also for his ability to command attention on some of the most prestigious fashion platforms globally. From Green October to Kenya Fashion Week, GTB Fashion Weekend, and Aberdeen Fashion Week, Adewole has made his mark in the fashion industry with his extraordinary collections and bold artistic vision. Here, he opens up about his experiences with these events and his future plans for Vixteau Couture.
La Mode Magazine: Victor, thank you for joining us today. You’ve participated in several high-profile fashion events, including Green October, Kenya Fashion Week, and GTB Fashion Weekend, to name a few. Can you tell us about your experience at these events and what they’ve meant for Vixteau Couture?
Victor Adewole: Thank you so much for having me. These events have been incredibly important in shaping the journey of Vixteau Couture. They offer the perfect platform to showcase our unique design aesthetic and also allow us to reach a broader, international audience. Each event is different, and each one has its own significance. For example, Green October is always special because it brings together designers from across Africa to celebrate not only fashion but also sustainability. It aligns perfectly with our brand’s ethos of making fashion that tells a story, one that’s not only about the garments themselves but also the processes behind their creation.
Kenya Fashion Week has been another highlight. It’s exciting to see the Kenyan fashion scene grow, and it’s an honor to be part of that evolution. The event brings together diverse talents, and it allows us to showcase Vixteau Couture in a dynamic market where people are passionate about supporting African fashion. The runway show at Kenya Fashion Week was truly an unforgettable experience.
Events like GTB Fashion Weekend and Satisfashion Magazine Fashion Show are particularly valuable because they give designers a chance to interact with not just fashion enthusiasts but also potential buyers and industry professionals. GTB Fashion Weekend is especially known for bridging the gap between high fashion and commercial viability, and that’s something Vixteau Couture aims to do—create pieces that are both art and marketable.
Aberdeen Fashion Week and Glitz Fashion Week have allowed me to expand Vixteau Couture’s reach into the international fashion community. Aberdeen Fashion Week, in particular, opened up new doors for the brand in the UK and Europe, where the interest in African-inspired couture is only growing. Each of these showcases has helped elevate our brand and broaden our global footprint.
La Mode Magazine: It’s clear that these fashion events have been pivotal for Vixteau Couture. Can you walk us through what your design process looks like when preparing for a runway show or exhibition? How do you ensure that each show is distinct and memorable?
Victor Adewole: Preparing for a runway show is always an exciting, yet challenging, process. It’s not just about the clothes—it’s about creating an entire experience. The first thing I do is decide on a theme or a narrative that will guide the collection. Each show tells a story, whether it’s a reflection of my African roots, an exploration of global luxury, or an engagement with the cultural and social issues that are close to my heart.
Once the theme is decided, we start to sketch designs and choose fabrics that will best convey that story. I love working with rich African textiles, but I also integrate global materials to create a more versatile, contemporary look. The challenge lies in striking a balance between traditional African aesthetics and modern luxury fashion.
The choreography and styling are also crucial. I work closely with my team to ensure that the models’ movements align with the mood of the collection. It’s not just about the garments walking down the runway; it’s about the entire presentation. Music, lighting, and the overall ambiance have a huge impact on how the collection is received.
For each show, I aim to create something that feels fresh, unique, and inspiring. Even though Vixteau Couture has a distinct aesthetic, I believe every collection should evolve to reflect where the brand is headed. That’s why we constantly push boundaries—whether through innovative fabrics, new silhouettes, or reimagining traditional techniques.
La Mode Magazine: Your collections have always been known for their attention to detail and cultural storytelling. How do you incorporate African heritage into your runway presentations, and how is this received by international audiences?
Victor Adewole: African heritage is at the heart of Vixteau Couture, so it’s only natural that I integrate elements of African culture into every collection. It’s not just about using African fabrics, but also about telling stories that connect with the soul. Whether it’s through Kente, Ankara, Adire, or Batik, these textiles have stories to tell. They hold meaning and history, and I want my designs to honor that.
When we present these collections on the runway, I focus on creating a balance that allows international audiences to appreciate the beauty and significance of these African fabrics, while also making them relatable to a global audience. For example, at Aberdeen Fashion Week, we presented a collection that fused traditional African motifs with European tailoring, and the response was overwhelmingly positive. People were excited to see these rich African textiles in a high-fashion context. It proves that African fashion isn’t just something that’s “ethnic” or niche—it’s luxury, it’s global, and it’s beautiful.
La Mode Magazine: You’ve had the opportunity to showcase your designs on some of the most prestigious runways, and you’re making an impact internationally. What’s next for Vixteau Couture? Are there any exciting projects or upcoming shows you can share with us?
Victor Adewole: The future for Vixteau Couture is incredibly exciting. We have several projects in the works, including collaborations with international designers and luxury brands. We are also looking into expanding our retail presence globally, with a special focus on increasing our distribution in Europe, the US, and Asia.
One of the major goals for Vixteau Couture is to expand our reach to fashion capitals around the world and to continue elevating African fashion to the forefront of global luxury. We’re exploring opportunities to partner with high-end department stores and boutiques to give more people access to our collections.
In terms of runway shows, we’re gearing up for New York Fashion Week and Paris Fashion Week, and we’ll be showcasing new collections that are even more innovative and sustainable. These collections will be a celebration of African artistry, global sophistication, and forward-thinking fashion design.
Additionally, we’re also launching our new collection that will be exclusive to select boutiques and online platforms, which will give our global audience a chance to experience Vixteau Couture in a new, accessible way. It’s all about making luxury fashion more inclusive while maintaining the artistry and craftsmanship that we’re known for.
