Lagos Fashion Week 2026 started today, and it is one of the biggest fashion events in Africa right now. If you have been asking what is happening, who is walking the runway, and what you should wear if you are attending, this post covers it all in plain language.
The event runs from October 28 to November 1, 2026, and takes place at the LagosFW Tents at the Federal Palace Hotel on Ahmadu Bello Way in Victoria Island, Lagos. It is put on by Style House Files, the same team that has been running the event for over 15 years. The title sponsor this season is Heineken.
The theme for 2026 is “CRAFTED: Heritage. Innovation. Circular Futures.” In simple terms, that means the focus is on African craft, new ideas, and making fashion more sustainable. You will see a lot of handwoven Aso-Oke, indigo-dyed Adire, and Akwete cloth being cut into modern shapes. There is also a programme called Green Access (now in its eighth edition) that brings in new designers working with zero-waste tailoring and circular design. Their sub-theme is “CRAFTED IN PRACTICE: Reimagining Craft for a Circular Future.”

What to Wear to Lagos Fashion Week 2026
You do not need to spend a fortune to look right. Here is what is working this season, in plain terms.
Wear African fabric in a modern cut. Aso-Oke, Adire, and Akwete are the big ones. You do not have to wear a full traditional outfit. A tailored jacket in Aso-Oke, a pair of Adire trousers, or a corset in Akwete all work. The point is to take the fabric and give it a new shape.
Play with size. Pair something big and dramatic (a wide coat, huge sleeves, a long skirt) with something slim and fitted underneath. That contrast is what makes a look feel intentional.
Add one or two bold accessories. Chunky gold necklaces, hand-carved leather bags, or a sculptural headpiece can finish a look fast. You do not need a lot. One strong piece is enough.
Dress for the weather and the day. Lagos in October is hot and humid. Light cotton and linen will keep you comfortable. If you are going to be on your feet for hours, skip the heels and go for clean sneakers or low boots.
Match your outfit to the time of day. The daytime industry sessions (fireside chats, business panels, fashion labs) call for a smart-casual energy. The evening runway shows are where you can go bolder.
Why This Year Feels Different
The 2026 season is pushing harder than ever on sustainability and local craft. The Green Access designers are not just showing “nice” pieces. They are showing how handwork, local materials, and circular thinking can actually work in a commercial fashion business. That is a big shift for an industry that has long been criticised for overproduction.
You will also see more designers from outside Nigeria. Christie Brown is from Ghana, Imprint South Africa is from South Africa, and there are presentations from other African markets. Lagos Fashion Week is becoming a real pan-African platform, not just a Nigerian one.
The bottom line: if you are in Lagos this week, show up. If you are not, follow the live coverage and street style posts. The energy this year is about craft meeting the future, and that is a story worth watching.
