Pelumi Nubi, a 29-year-old Nigerian adventurer based in the United Kingdom, has explored 80 countries and is gearing up for a remarkable solo road trip. Instead of taking a plane, she’s opting to drive from London to Lagos. This ambitious venture goes beyond ticking off destinations; it’s driven by a love for adventure, a commitment to inspire other female solo travelers—especially black women—and a determination to challenge preconceived limits. As Pelumi states, “Witnessing people take on challenges is crucial to expanding your view of possibilities.” Some may not realize that a car journey from London to Lagos is achievable.

The comprehensive plan involves traversing 17 nations in two months, exploring every city and landscape along the route. Pelumi’s path covers England, France, Spain, Morocco, the vast West Sahara Desert, Mauritania, Senegal, Gambia, Guinea, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Mali, Burkina Faso, Cote d’Ivoire, Ghana, Togo, and Benin before reaching Lagos. The journey kicks off on Tuesday, January 30, 2024, and concludes by the end of March. This isn’t Pelumi’s first road trip; she has previously completed the Lagos-Ghana route twice, explored Namibia for two weeks, and driven from London to Lake Como, Italy.

Undoubtedly, such an epic expedition requires significant funding. Pelumi estimates the entire journey’s cost between $15,000 and $20,000, covering transportation, lodging, and essential needs. A year of meticulous planning and personal financial preparation lays the groundwork, yet Pelumi seeks collaboration from individuals willing to support this expedition.
