The dawn of another gloriously, miraculous milestone day for everyone to excel in; and do better than the day before, in relatively good health is more than enough to give thanks for every morning. I give thanks to God as soon as the sun rises and then the praises start to pour. Thank you for the air we breathe, the sun that warms us, the water that helps the plants grow and all creatures great and small.

I am sure you also have many things to give thanks for in your lives, that job offer, the new promotion, that amazing business opportunity, the house offer, the new car, passing your driving test, graduating, meeting up with old friends, making new acquaintances, falling in love, weddings, birthdays, overcoming illness, life obstacles, etc, the list is endless.

It is a good thing to slow down sometimes, take a breath and appreciate all our many achievements, no matter how great or small. It is also nice to celebrate each other’s achievements and milestones, making life so much more interesting, giving us lots of exciting reasons to look forward to the future and giving our lives some valuable meaning.

Here are 5 positive ways to achieve the ‘Gratitude Mode’ as we all navigate the wide seas, wonderful waves, monstrous mountains, vibrant valleys, and highways and by-ways of this joyous journey we know and call life. Hopefully, eventually, finding our personal God relationship, peace and calm. This list is non-exhaustive.

1/ Gratitude Journaling: Start a gratitude journal where you can jot down things you are grateful for each day. This practice helps to focus on the positives in life and fosters a sense of contentment.

2/ Community Volunteering: Organise a volunteering event in your neighbourhood or community where individuals can give back to the community. Remember this is primarily about growing older gracefully, but all ages provide valuable insights and contributions are welcome from everyone.

Volunteering not only helps others but also provides a sense of purpose and fulfilment. Arrange activities that bring together people of different age groups, such as storytelling sessions, art classes, or gardening projects. Interacting with younger generations can offer fresh perspectives and create meaningful connections.

3/ Legacy Projects: Reflect on your life experiences and create a legacy project, such as writing a memoir, compiling a family recipe book, or creating a scrapbook of cherished memories. This process can help you appreciate your life journey and the wisdom gained over the years.

4/ Health and Wellness Retreats: Host wellness retreats focusing on holistic health approaches such as exercise, nutrition workshops, and stress-reduction techniques. These retreats promote self-care and gratitude for one’s health and well-being.

5/ Celebrating Milestones: Acknowledge and celebrate significant milestones reached by individuals in their later years, such as birthdays, anniversaries, becoming grandparents or retirement. These occasions provide opportunities to reflect on accomplishments and express gratitude for the journey so far.

Remember, the key is to create opportunities for us to reflect, connect, and find meaning in our experiences, fostering a sense of gratitude for the richness of life at any age. I am grateful to have successfully come this far and look forward to discovering what the future holds for family, friends, neighbours, and our global community.
