Six of the seven shirts worn by Lionel Messi during Argentina’s World Cup victory in Qatar will be auctioned by Sotheby’s, and it’s expected to become the largest-ever auction of sporting memorabilia.
The kits, worn in the first half of Messi’s World Cup games, including the final, are estimated to fetch over £8 million. The auction will take place between November 30 and December 14, with a portion of the proceeds going to the UNICAS Project at Barcelona children’s hospital Sant Joan de Jeu.
The current record for a game-worn item of sporting memorabilia is £8.1 million, set by Michael Jordan’s jersey in 2022.
