Nollywood actor Ayoola Ayolola recently shared a deeply personal story about his struggle with depression and a suicide attempt following the news of his impending fatherhood.

In a candid conversation with Chude Jideonwo, Ayolola revealed that he was overwhelmed with feelings of inadequacy and unpreparedness when he learned that he was going to be a father. At that time, he was still trying to find his purpose and navigate life’s challenges.

The actor expressed his disappointment in himself for having a child out of wedlock, especially as a pastor’s son. This disappointment, coupled with his depression, led him to the brink of taking his own life.

Ayolola recounted a harrowing moment when he stood in the middle of a busy road, contemplating stepping in front of a car to end his life. However, at the last minute, the fear of going to hell stopped him, and he narrowly avoided being hit by a car.

After this life-changing experience, Ayolola’s perspective shifted. He realized the blessing of fatherhood and the impact his actions could have had on his child’s life. He now embraces his role as a father and cherishes the moments with his son.
