Céline Dion and her son René-Charles Angélil shared a heartwarming moment on the red carpet at the New York City screening of her new documentary, I Am: Celine Dion. The 56-year-old “Queen of Power Ballads” looked absolutely radiant, dazzling fans and photographers alike in her all-white ensemble.
Dion, known for her powerful voice and captivating stage presence, donned a long skirt paired with an elegant long-sleeved blouse, cinched with a silver belt. She completed the look with matching bracelets and stud earrings. Her 23-year-old son, René-Charles, looked equally dapper in a black suit and coordinating dress shoes, proudly standing by his mother’s side.
The event marked a special occasion for the legendary singer, as I Am: Celine Dion, set to premiere on Prime Video on June 25, offers an intimate glimpse into her life and career. The documentary also sheds light on Dion’s battle with a rare neurological disorder, stiff-person syndrome (SPS), which has significantly impacted her ability to perform.
In the film’s trailer, released in May 2024, Dion opens up about her struggles with SPS. “My voice is the conductor of my life,” she shares, acknowledging the challenges she faces due to muscle spasms caused by the condition. “It’s been a struggle,” she admits, “I miss it so much. The people, I miss them. If I can’t run, I’ll walk. If I can’t walk, I’ll crawl.”
Directed by Oscar nominee Irene Taylor, the documentary is described as “a love letter to her fans,” featuring confessional-style interviews and snippets from Dion’s illustrious career.
Since her diagnosis in 2022, Dion has largely stayed out of the public eye, making her appearance at the 2024 Grammy Awards in February a significant moment. The five-time Grammy Award winner received a standing ovation as she took the stage to present the award for Album of the Year to Taylor Swift.
For the Grammys, Dion wowed in a floor-length baby pink Valentino gown with a pleated bodice, accessorized with Tiffany & Co. jewelry, including a 12+ carat diamond necklace, a 6-carat pear-shaped cocktail ring, and diamond bracelets. She topped off the look with a long caramel Valentino coat and styled her hair into a sleek bob.
Reflecting on the appearance during an April 2024 interview for Vogue’s “Life in Looks” series, Dion said, “It was very nerve-wracking, but at the same time, a big honor. That magic. That excitement. To see the fans, to see the crowd. To see show business again.”
Her stylist, Law Roach, expressed his gratitude on Instagram, sharing a heartfelt post: “This makes me so much Joy! Not just to dress my Queen again but the fact that she’s HEALTHY AND HAPPY! The UNIVERSE always PROTECTS and PROVIDES. Thank you @maisonvalentino @pppiccioli @f3nardi @tiffanyandco @michaelmclaughlin2 @matthewreisman and of course Thank you Celine for allowing me to share this triumphant moment with you.”
Roach, credited with transforming Dion’s fashion image, has previously collaborated with her on numerous stunning red carpet looks. One of their most memorable moments was at the 2017 Billboard Music Awards, where Dion wore a voluminous white gown by Stephan Rolland Haute Couture. “I brought maybe 15 dresses [to Céline] and this one, I knew,” Roach told Entertainment Tonight. “I knew when she saw it and she tried it on, it was just [gasp], and when you have that [gasp], you know it’s the right one.”
