Kicking off awards season on a powerful note, Teyana Taylor claimed a well-deserved win at the 83rd Golden Globe Awards, taking home Best Supporting Actress for her role in One Battle After Another.

The victory marked a significant milestone in Taylor’s multi-hyphenate career, one that has long defied easy categorization. From music to dance, directing to acting, Taylor has consistently moved across creative lanes with confidence and intention. Her journey began in 2007 with a Star Trak Entertainment record deal, but her evolution as a performer has been anything but linear.

Her most recent project, One Battle After Another, proved to be a defining chapter. In the film, Taylor stars opposite Leonardo DiCaprio as Perfidia, a fierce revolutionary and partner in crime to DiCaprio’s character. The role demanded emotional depth and physical intensity, placing Taylor at the center of high-stakes, action-driven storytelling. It also showcased a level of dramatic range that left a lasting impression on audiences and critics alike.

When her name was called on Sunday night, the moment felt both triumphant and deeply personal.

Taking the stage through tears, Taylor delivered a raw and emotional acceptance speech, openly admitting she hadn’t expected to win. “Oh my God, I almost didn’t even write a speech because I didn’t think I’d win,” she said, visibly overwhelmed. She went on to thank her support system, calling them her “grounding force” and a daily reminder that love is something lived, not just spoken.

Taylor extended heartfelt gratitude to the film’s cast and crew, as well as her family watching from home. But it was her closing message that resonated most powerfully.

“Last and most importantly, to my brown sisters and little brown girls watching tonight,” she said. “Our softness is not a liability. Our depth is not too much. Our light does not need permission to shine. We belong in every room we walk into. Our voices matter and our dreams deserve space.”
