We don’t want to alarm you, but Kemi Adetiba is back—and she’s not easing us into it. The trailer for her new Netflix series To Kill A Monkey just dropped, and it already looks like the kind of unrelenting, morally murky drama that’s going to ruin our group chats (in the best way). The release date is officially set for July 18, which gives you just enough time to cancel plans, line up snacks, and emotionally prepare.

Kemi Adetiba

The series follows Efemini, a regular man whose life takes a sharp left turn after bumping into an old friend. One bad decision later, he’s neck-deep in cybercrime and forced to trade his values for survival—because apparently, rock bottom has a few extra floors. Think heartbreak, consequences, and that slow descent into chaos we can’t help but binge.

Written, directed, and produced by Adetiba herself, To Kill A Monkey is her first major project since King of Boys: Return of the King—and yeah, it shows. She’s pulled together a killer lineup including William Benson, Bucci Franklin, Bimbo Akintola, Stella Damasus, Chidi Mokeme, Sunshine Rosman, Lilian Afegbai, Ireti Doyle, and more. If you’ve been wondering where all your favourite Nollywood scene-stealers went? They’re here. And they look stressed.

It also doesn’t hurt that the score is by Oscar Heman-Ackah, which means every betrayal and near-breakdown is going to be soundtracked like a blockbuster moment. The whole thing screams premium Nollywood cinema with actual teeth—layered, suspenseful, and deeply unafraid to drag us through the emotional trenches.

Honestly, if King of Boys was the political epic we couldn’t stop quoting, To Kill A Monkey is shaping up to be the cyber-noir thriller we’ll be watching at 3AM while tweeting through our feelings.

July 18. Netflix. Cancel everything.
