Celebrity glitz and glamour illuminated the red carpet at the Academy Museum on Wednesday night as Hollywood’s A-listers gathered for the premiere of “The Color Purple.” The film, directed by Blitz Bazawule, promises a bold and fresh take on the beloved classic derived from Alice Walker’s iconic novel and the acclaimed Broadway musical.
The event saw a constellation of stars gracing the premiere, including the incomparable Oprah Winfrey, who took on the role of producer this time around. Leading the charge in her feature film debut, Fantasia Barrino took on the pivotal character of Celie, adding her own touch to the legendary role.
