Tyra Banks is all business and all glam at the same time! The supermodel, with her iconic smize, celebrated the 60th anniversary of Sports Illustrated Swimsuit in an unforgettable style.

On Thursday, May 16, at the Hard Rock Hotel in New York City, Tyra dazzled everyone at the anniversary party for the magazine’s special issue, where she graced the cover once again. At 50, she’s proving that age is just a number and style is eternal.

Tyra walked the red carpet in a sexy double-breasted blazer, featuring metallic magenta accents on the lapel and buttons, paired with skinny black pants and pointed-toe stilettos. Her signature light brown hair flowed down in voluminous waves, making her look as iconic as ever.

This year’s anniversary issue is a true celebration with seven different covers, all shot by photographer Yu Tsai. The covers feature an array of legends, including Chrissy Teigen, Gayle King, Hunter McGrady, and Kate Upton, and group shots with Christie Brinkley, Molly Sims, Martha Stewart, and Paulina Porizkova.

Tyra Banks made history back in 1996 as the first Black model to cover SI Swimsuit. Reflecting on her groundbreaking career, she shared in the magazine what it means to be considered a legend. “What does being an SI Swimsuit Legend mean to me? Busting down the door so other people can come through,” she said.

On Instagram, Tyra posted a heartfelt message along with a video from her cover shoot, “28 years ago, I made history by being the 1st Black model to grace the cover of @si_swimsuit. And today, I am honoured to be called a LEGEND and ICON on this year’s 60th Anniversary cover. When you’re older, what do YOU hope to be a legend for?”

Sports Illustrated Swimsuit’s editor-in-chief, MJ Day, highlighted the significance of this anniversary. “Over the past 60 years, we have shattered stereotypes, embraced diversity, and championed inclusivity. With each passing year, we have challenged ourselves to push boundaries and redefine what it means to be Sports Illustrated Swimsuit.”

Day continued, “While this year’s issue is a tribute to the recent past, it’s also a reminder of the work we must continue to do. We must remind women to challenge the status quo, to celebrate strength and confidence, and to inspire those around us to embrace their uniqueness and pursue their passions fearlessly.”
