The actress cum director, Genevieve Nnaji while speaking on CNN about her Netflix acquired film, “Lion Heart,” which premiered over the weekend at the Toronto International Film Festival, (TIFF) noted language as one of the major barriers preventing Nollywood from going global.

She also identified lack of funds for movies as another challenge facing the movie industry.

“For the money, we had to self-fund unfortunately for movies. We don’t have adequate funding for movies that we actually intend to go global, there isn’t that provision yet.” she said

“Nollywood stands a good chance of going global anytime soon, but language is the only problem that stands as a barrier as we all identify with culture, pain.”

Genevieve also identified the authenticity of the story behind Lion Heart as one of the reason why it was acquired by Netflix.
