Beyoncé has achieved another remarkable milestone in her career. Her venture into country music with “Texas Hold ‘Em” has reached the number one spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, marking her ninth number-one hit and her first in the country genre. She becomes the first Black woman to have a country song top the Hot 100.
The track debuted at number two last week but climbed to the top spot, following the release of her Verizon commercial during Super Bowl LVIII. This success comes on the heels of “Texas Hold ‘Em” also reaching number one on the Hot Country Songs chart, making Beyoncé the first woman to debut at the top spot on that chart.
Alongside “Texas Hold ‘Em,” Beyoncé’s “16 Carriages” is also making waves, currently sitting at number nine on the Hot 100. These singles are leading up to the release of her new album, “Act II,” the second installment of her “RENAISSANCE” trilogy, scheduled to drop on March 29.
Beyoncé’s crossover success into country music has not been without challenges. A country radio station in Oklahoma initially faced criticism for not playing “Texas Hold ‘Em,” but later added it to their playlist after public outcry, acknowledging that the song fit the genre’s sound.
