CJ “Fiery” Obasi’s Nigerian epic film, “Mami Wata,” and American-Nigerian actress Ayo Edebiri have earned nominations for the 2024 National Association for the Advancement of Coloured People (NAACP) Image Awards.

Announced on Thursday, January 25, 2024, “Mami Wata” is nominated in the Outstanding International Motion Picture category, competing against films like “Anatomy of a Fall,” “Brother,” “Rye Lane,” and “Society of the Snow.” The black and white movie, directed and written by CJ “Fiery” Obasi, has gained international recognition, participating in various film festivals worldwide.

Expressing gratitude for the nomination, Obasi shared on Twitter: “This one is so special. So thankful to the @naacpimageaward for this huge honour. Thank you to my family, team, friends, and supporters. This is for us.”

Ayo Edebiri received a nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actress for her roles in “The Bear” and “Abbott Elementary.” The NAACP Image Awards ceremony is scheduled for Saturday, March 16, 2024, at 8:00 PM ET/PT on BET and CBS.

Other notable Nigerian nominees include music star Tems in the Outstanding Female Artist category and Burna Boy for Outstanding Hip Hop/Rap Song.
